Getting to Know the Project: Note to Teachers

Welcome to the What’s Your Angle, Pythagoras? Project. The project will require approximately three weeks to complete and will address the key CCSS for geometry in the following clusters:

* Prove geometric theorems.

  • Make geometric constructions.
  • Define trigonometric ratios and solve problems involving right triangles.
  • Apply geometric concepts in modeling situations.

Before beginning the project, take time to review all the documents provided for this project.

The What’s Your Angle, Pythagoras? Project is designed to engage students in the study of geometry by having them explain the Pythagorean theorem, including proofs, and know how it is applied in everyday life. Students will be expected to take a common design problem and apply the Pythagorean theorem to find a solution. They will incorporate their design challenge and solution into a presentation designed to teach younger students about the Pythagorean theorem and its applications.
